Effect of P- Solubilizing Bacteria on Microbial Biomass P and Phosphatase Activity in Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L) Rhizosphere

چکیده
Phosphorus is the second most essential macro nutrient after nitrogen required for crop growth (Lal, 2002). Various metabolic processes viz., energy transfer, signal transduction, macro-molecular biosynthesis, photosynthesis, respiration, etc. require P as the key ingredient (Shenoy and Kalagudi, 2005). Mostly soils contain only approximately 1 μmol l -1 soluble P, where as the P requirement by the crops is approximately 30 μmol l -1 soluble P for optimum productivity (Simpson et al., 2011). Plant roots usually absorb P as dihydrogen orthophosphate (H2PO4 ) and monohydrogen orthophosphate (HPO4 -2 ) ion (Panda, 2009). Declined soil reaction (pH) increases the concentration of Fe and Al in soil solution thereby making complexes with aluminum and iron-free oxide sand hydroxides (Fearnside, 1998; Richardson, 2001). Soil acidity thus triggers and increases rate of P fixation as well as immobilization (Fankem et al., 2006). Unlike N, P availability is highly dependent on the type of soil reaction (pH) and no big atmospheric source is there to supplement the P requirement of crops. Again, compared to N and K, total phosphorus level of soils is low and usually one tenth to one fourth of N and one twelfth of K (Jones and Eva, 2011). Thus, P is also International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 6 Number 4 (2017) pp. 1240-1260 Journal homepage: http://www.ijcmas.com

Phylloplane bacteria increase seedling emergence, growth and yield of field-grown groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.).
AIM To isolate and characterize groundnut-associated bacterial isolates for growth promotion of groundnut in field. METHODS AND RESULTS Three hundred and ninety-three groundnut-associated bacteria, representing the geocarposphere, phylloplane and rhizosphere, and endophytes were applied as seed treatment in greenhouse. Maximum increase in plant biomass (up to 26%) was observed following treat...
متن کاملSeed Yield of Groundnut (Arachis Hypogaea L.) as Influenced by Phosphorus and Manure Application at Babile, Eastern Ethiopia
Objective: A field experiment was conducted in order to study the effect of phosphorus and manure application on agronomic performance and seed yield of groundnut. Methods: Factorial combination of two groundnut varieties (‘Werer 962’ and ‘Oldhale’), Three rates of phosphorus (0, 90 and 180 kg P2O5 ha-1) and three rates of manur...

متن کاملEffect of hydropriming on morphological and physiological performance of aged groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) seeds
Low viability and poor vigour due to seed deterioration are major problems for successful agricultural production. In this experiment, the ability of hydropriming to ameliorate seed deterioration damage was studied in groundnut. Groundnut seeds were subjected to accelerated ageing for 96 hours at 40 °C and then hydroprimed at 25 °C for 6, 12 and 18 hours. Regardless of duration, hydropriming si...
متن کاملCauses of legume-rotation effects in increasing cereal yields across the Sudanian, Sahelian and Guinean zone of West Africa
On-farm experiments and pot trials were conducted on eight West African soils to explore the mechanisms governing the often reported legume rotation-induced cereal growth increases in this region. Crops comprised pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.), sorghum (Sorghum bicolor Moench), maize (Zea mays L.), cowpea (Vigna unguiculata Walp.) and groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.). In groundnut trials t...
